Introduction
The 3rd Beledije Training Course is designed to increase the capacity of technical personnel working in Cultural Heritage management. This will be achieved by:
•providing technical staff (architects, engineers) with information in the reuse of built heritage,
•showing advanced techniques of recording and development of conservation and restoration projects,
•upgrading the skills level of the management of cultural heritage by encouraging and facilitating multidisciplinary work.
The 3rd Beledije Training Course is addressed to public servants, architects, urban planners, civil engineers, archaeologists, art historians, private companies and contractors working with historic buildings from Kosovo and the Balkan region. Students are part of this target group. The total number of selected applicants will not exceed 20.
Participants will follow a schedule combining theory with actual documentation works supervised by architects, urban planners and archaeologists on a vernacular monument in the historical castle of Vushtrri / Vučitrn. A study tour will be organized to Skopje/FYRoM. The visit will comprise lectures in the material science laboratory in Skopje, as well as presentation of national policies and best practices on restoration and valorisation of heritage.
Objective and purposes
The objective of the 3rd Beledije Training Course is to ensure the development and sustainability of expertise in the field of cultural heritage management and conservation in the Western Balkan region. In this respect, the course purposes are to:
•Contribute to building a theoretical and hands on platform of common understanding for participants from Western Balkans;
•Introduce mechanisms and appropriate tools for management and preservation of cultural heritage;
•Promote the international charters and conventions that formalize preservation and integration of culture heritage into the local development;
•Strengthen the role of local communities as active stakeholders on the identification and preservation of heritage values.
Course structure
The 3rd Beledije Training Course will provide the following modules:
1.Conservation of built heritage;
2.Traditional knowledge combined with craft skills;
3.Sustainable management and conservation planning ;
4.Interpretation of conservation and restoration interventions according to proper reuse;
5.Practical work;
6.Protection of cultural heritage from earthquakes;
7.Surveying, documentation, diagnosis and planning for conservation of built heritage;
8.Scientific principles of conservation: techniques and materials;
9.Reuse of historic buildings;
10.Development of the restoration project;
11.Management of cultural heritage;
12.Introduction of the FYROM national policies and practices in regard with the cultural heritage protection;

•Vushtrri / Vučitrn, Kosovo

Allowances and Accommodation
Daily allowances will cover meals and accommodation. Participants will stay at Vushtrri / Vučitrn with transport provided to Skopje for the study tour.
Documents required for application
•Signed Application Form through e-mail
•CV (indicating relevant experience in cultural heritage)
•Motivation letter (maximum one page describing main skills, motivation, expectations from the course, plan to apply and share the knowledge to be acquired)
•Signed letter of support from a supervisor confirming leave of absence from work for the duration of the course

The course language is English, and all applications should be submitted in English.

The results of the application process will be announced on the 21st of March 2012, leaving participants time to prepare for the two-week course. Participants should reach Vushtrri / Vučitrn on 25 March, latest by 17.00. Lectures will begin on 26 March, 2012.
The “Beledije Certificate” will reward the participants who will pass the final assessment.
