Meet the Lecturers – HERITAGE LAB 2019 “REFINDING THE HERITAGE OF LETNICA”

For 12 days, students will be able to build their knowledge in cultural heritage field by drafting the conservation and development study of Letnicë/Letnica village as well as restoring the Mill of Frok Dokic. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to learn about the cultural heritage integrated conservation and preservation throughout lectures conducted by international and national renowned professors and experts as well as practical work coordinated by experienced craftsmen.

RAND EPPICH – CONSERVATION ARCHITECT        

Rand believes that the protection of our natural and built historic environment is essential because it has a profound impact on the quality of our lives and shapes our identities. He has spent the last 30 years working toward its protection in more than 20 countries on projects ranging from conservation and the creation of architectural drawings and specifications to management in rural and economic development. His latest assignments have been in Georgia with Blue Shield on the Getty Foundation´s Keeping it Modern initiative, in Suriname for management planning, and in Cyprus for the UNDP as Team Leader on the conservation of Famagusta´s fortifications: For Tecnalia Foundation he directed the EU HISTCAPE project for identifying good practice for rural landscape conservation and development. He holds a Bachelor’s in Architecture (focus on historic preservation), a Master´s in Architecture + Urban Design from the University of California Los Angeles, a MBA from UCLA, and is currently completing his PhD on social economic development utilizing cultural heritage. Rand spent 13 years at the Getty Conservation Institute as Senior Project Manager and has lectured at the British Museum, KU Leuven, Penn, UCLA, METU and most recently at the University of Navarra. He is an executive board member of CIPA ICOMOS and Europa Nostra.

LORINA JERLIU – PROFESSOR AT UNIVERSITY “HASAN PRISHTINA”

Florina Jerliu is a professor in the University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina”. She teaches Art and Architectural history, theory and built heritage in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Aesthetics and Public art in the Faculty of Fine Arts. She isthe co-founder and chair of the foundation for architecture and urbanism Archis Interventions Prishtina (part of the Archis Network together with Archis Interventions Amsterdam and Archis Interventions Berlin).
Jerliu is the author of the text of the National Strategy for Cultural Heritage of Kosovo 2017-2027; author/designer of the first national archaeological park in Kosovo: Archaeological Park Ulpiana; author of books: Preservation of Built Heritage (2016) and Cultural Heritage of Kosovo: Concepts and Contexts of Protection(2017); and of a number of scientific papers. She is also a laureate for the Annual Prize for Scientific Contribution in the field of Cultural Heritage “Zef Mirdita” (2018) awarded by MYSC.

SALI SHOSHI – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT CULTURAL HERITAGE WITHOUT BORDERS (CHwB Kosovo)

Sali Shoshi is an architect and environmentalist from Kosovo. He has been involved in the conservation of cultural heritage of Kosovo for 17 years as a member of the Kosovan Foundation “Cultural Heritage without Borders” – CHwB Kosova. Shoshi is involved in many initiatives and projects for the protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage in post-conflict and transition contexts.

NORA ARAPI – ARCHITECT 

Nora Arapi is an architect specialized in the field of conservation of monuments and sites. During her career she was engaged in several integrated conservation, design of conservation and management of conservation projects, as well as management plans for heritage sites. She has been working in cultural heritage field since 2009, where she started her career at the Swedish foundation Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB), later to continue at the Ministry of Culture of Kosovo, respectively Regional Centre for Cultural Heritage in Prizren. The passion for preservation of built heritage and the ambition to use this heritage as potential for sustainable urban development are two main components that motivate her work.
