Mezzosoprano Flaka Goranci promotes Albanian music in Vienna

On May 12, 2015, under the charm of the baroque hall of Altes Rathaus Vienna, Kosovar Mezzo-soprano Flaka Goranci held the concert and album promotion of Albanian songs from different regions of Kosovo and Albania. The album entitled "Albanian flowers" contains a booklet with 30 pages, which includes the lyrics in Albanian, English and German, a description of Albanian music and pictures of landscapes of the most beautiful regions of Kosovo and Albania.

"The idea for creating an international album aims precisely the recognition of our cultural values ​​in the world. The main aim has been the reach of the CD especially in the international arena, by being an informer of Albanian music culture, poetic, visual, cultural heritage, etc.", said Flaka Goranci after the concert.

During November this year, the album in Kosovo is expected to be promoted, crowned with the concert in Pristina and in the birthplace of the artist, Gjakova.

This project is supported by the Ministry of Culture in Kosovo, the Ministry of Culture in Albania, Cultural Heritage without Borders-office in Kosovo, the Municipality of Gjakova, the Ministry of Diaspora in Kosovo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Austria, the Austrian Embassy in Kosovo, the Kosovo Embassy in Austria, the Ministry of Integration in Austria and Bank Austria.

Flaka Goranci was born in Kosovo. At the age of 7 she started studying piano at her home town Gjakova. After finishing her singing studies at the academy of music in Tirana with Prof. Suzana Frashëri, she won a scholarship from the “Buchmann-Mehta School of Music”, Tel Aviv, followed by two years of master studies with Prof. Tamar Rachum. She took private lessons in interpretation of Lied and Oratorio with Prof. Walter Moore in Vienna. She was awarded by the “Hildegard Zadek Stiftung” in Vienna, which supports young opera singers. At the age 22, she gave her debut as Rosina in Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia” at the National Opera Tirana, Albania. Other roles included e.g. Cherubino, Dido, Dorabella, Die Mutter, Bojana. Her Lied repertoire includes works by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Mahler, Berio and others. Simultaneously, Goranci has been working on this CD project since two years, concerning the idea that Albanian music from Albania and Kosovo should be more familiar to the world.
