ADAPTIVE REUSE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE SITES
The Adaptive Reuse is a series of measures and actions to be undertaken for documentation, restoration and reuse of the monuments.
CHwB Kosovo based on 16 years’ of experience on cultural heritage protection is developing this approach in our country. It ensures that building is preserved using the traditional techniques and materials that are applied by local communities, based on their knowledge and tradition. While restoring a building, it is important that traditional crafts are introduced to young practitioners through hands on trainings and the work on site. In addition, the Adaptive Reuse aims to use restoration as a tool to achieve another goal, which is reutilization of cultural heritage sites, based on contemporary needs.
Furthermore, the Adaptive Reuse promotes the synergy of cultural and creative industries to be widely understood as important drivers of economic growth and employment. Implementation of this component also aims to create new opportunities, through the platform “Heritage Lab”, for students and young professionals of different fields to learn about methods of documentation, preservation, adaptive reuse and interpretation of cultural heritage through “hands on” practical work and complementary lectures.
