Nol Binakaj

Deputy Director, Program Manager
Nol Binakaj is Deputy Head of Office and Program Coordinator for Adaptive Reuse of Historic Buildings and Sites at Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) Kosovo, where he has been actively engaged since 2005. He has led and coordinated numerous projects focused on the conservation and adaptive reuse of major vernacular, public, and religious buildings across Kosovo, contributing significantly to the revitalization of historic environments.

His professional focus lies in urban regeneration and planning, with particular emphasis on civic engagement, participatory methodologies, and community-led processes. Binakaj is also a founding member of the Kosovo Architecture Foundation (KAF) and was part of the multidisciplinary team awarded the Getty Foundation’s “Keeping It Modern” grant for the development of the Conservation and Management Plan of Kosovo’s National Library.

He holds a degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Prishtina and completed specialized professional training in the Conservation and Management of Historic Buildings at Lund University, Sweden. In 2016, he served as a Kosovo nominator for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. In 2017, he was selected as a Hubert H. Humphrey / Fulbright Fellow and conducted research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Department of Urban Studies and Planning, USA.

Nol Binakaj is a member of ICOMOS and Do.Co.Mo.Mo. International.
