As part of KAH DRITA III, the film “Stina e Stanit” was screened, followed by a discussion with the directors Clirimtare Januzaj and Urtese Zeneli.
“The Season of Stani” is an ethnographic film that focuses on the survival of seasonal pastoralism and transhumance practices in the highlands of Isniq (Milishevc). Through direct engagement, anthropologists Çlirimtare Januzaj and Urtesë Zeneli collect ethnographic material and present the highland as a sacred space of memory, a place of spiritual connections, family heritage, and collective identity.
The film follows a family throughout the seasonal cycle, from their ascent into the mountains to their descent at the end of summer. Yet this way of life is changing. Tradition endures, but precariously. As they return to the city, a question lingers: will this path be walked again in the future, as it has been across generations?
The discussion took place in front of an audience that is closely familiar with and directly connected to the practice of transhumance, knowing mountain life and its seasonal cycle from close experience. This proximity to the film’s subject made the conversation feel especially natural and grounded, bringing reflections that are directly tied to the reality of the region, the memory of life in the mountains, and the way this tradition continues to survive today.
