The third edition of the KAH DRITA Festival will take place on July 4 and 7 in Junik, offering a diverse program that brings together cultural heritage, art, education, and nature-based experiences.
Under this year’s theme, transhumance the centuries-old tradition of the seasonal movement of shepherds and livestock to mountain pastures, the festival aims to highlight a way of life that has shaped the cultural identity of the region for generations.
The program begins on July 4 in Valavica with educational workshops on artificial intelligence and activities for children. During the day, visitors will also have the opportunity to watch the documentary film “The Season of the Mountain Hut” (Stina e Stanit), which explores life in the highlands and the traditions that continue to be preserved today. A discussion with the film’s authors will follow the screening.
In the evening, the festival will officially open with the inauguration of the Panoramic Balcony in Gjocaj, a new space offering breathtaking views of the Dukagjini landscape. The artistic program will continue with musical performances by the Dukagjin Muhaxheri Quartet and Peppa Marriti Band.
On July 7, participants will have the opportunity to experience mountain life firsthand through a visit to the Krasniqi family’s mountain hut in the Junik Highlands. Visitors will learn about pastoral traditions, the production of traditional dairy products, and a way of life that continues to thrive in these mountainous areas.
The day will continue with a traditional lunch and performances of traditional mountain songs by the Deçan Folk Song and Dance Ensemble, offering an authentic experience that connects culture, nature, and the region’s living heritage.
Through this edition, KAH DRITA seeks to build bridges between the past and the present, promoting cultural heritage as a living value that continues to inspire local communities and visitors alike.
